Digitally accessible: apps for everyone

Everyone should be able to participate in society. Digitally as well as physically. Fortunately, there is increasing attention to digital accessibility. In the modern world, digital technology is an integral part of our daily lives. Almost everyone has a mobile phone, tablet or laptop. It is essential that websites and mobile apps are accessible to all users, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities. The European standard for digital accessibility is EN 301 549. This enables European organizations to measure the accessibility of websites, electronic documents and non-web software such as native mobile apps, against documented success criteria for all people, including those with disabilities. In the Netherlands, the Digital Accessibility Act requires all governmental organizations to make and keep their websites and apps accessible for everyone. How accessible are the 4,417 websites and apps of the Dutch government? Check it on the Dashboard DigiToegankelijk (EN: Digital accessibility dashboard). Currently, 3,036 comply with the legal obligation, of which 381 fully.
