Monitoring NO2 emissions

Monitoring NO2 emissions

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is one of the main greenhouse gases, highly correlated with the use of fossil fuels. High concentrations of this gas can lead to respiratory issues such as asthma. On top of this, it contributes to acid rain and global warming. Thanks to ESA and the satellite Sentinel-5P, we can closely monitor the emissions of NO2 in any part of the world, let’s take a look at the month of September in the Netherlands. The red color indicates high concentrations of NO2, notice how it tends to be higher on top of cities, roads and industrial areas. What can you do to help decrease it?
